What is included in strat-o-matic current edition and are the contents necessary to play a game?

I am looking to buy my first strat-o-matic baseball game. I am a little confused as to what is in the strat-o-matic current edition over just the cards. Being that I do not have any previous start-o-matic things, is it necessary for me to get the "current edition" or will just having the cards suffice?
