Any tips on how to train a hyperactive and misbehaving puppy?

Sounds like you're very resourceful with your approach, but he might need basic training and then an upgrade to more complex training. He's still young, so don't lose hope. He needs to know that he is NEVER allowed on the furniture and eventually he will stop going there. As for the muddiness, keep supplies (towels and such) near the door and clean him up every time, he'll eventually realise that that is part of his routine. But like I said, he's still just a puppy and will calm down over time.
